Professional Athlete's sex scandals

Early last week the news broke that Former NFL great Lawrence Taylor was accused of rape. The victim was a runaway sixteen year old girl who got in the wrong crowd and had become a call girl. Taylor is now being charged with rape in the third degree. Taylor got the girl through a middle man that forced the girl to go to the hotel room to have sex with Taylor. Taylor and his lawyer are claiming that they thought the victim was 19. Either way Taylor paid 300 dollars to have sex with the girl which is also illegal in the state of New York.

Also weeks earlier Ben Roethlisberger was accused of his third sexual assault in a year. This raises the question are women trying to take or exploit famous people for their money, by claiming that they were assaulted, or are famous people and athletes are doing whatever they please because they think they are famous and can do whatever they want.

For as long as the media has covered the entertainment industry and professional sports, there has been some kind of sex scandal going on. Most go away with a out of court settlement, or not enough evidence to prosecute, or the supposed victim decides not to press charges.

Professional athletes are in the spot light and are targeted because they have money and have a high social status and people try to exploit them to gain both. Usual the truth in those situations comes out in the end and the lies come out. Also there are situation where the star is in the wrong and because of his superstar status he walks free and gets out of it. Also there has many a situation where the accused will pay the victim off to drop it and or cover it up to keep the star’s name clean and out of the dirt.

The deal with famous people they needed to be put on the same leave as the common man, but that is impossible, because they are under a microscope and anything they do is through out for the public to see, so they can’t be held to the same standard as most. They are kids role models, so they should know better and act accordingly. But in the same respect they are human and are people screw up. In all not all professional athletes aren’t as innocent as one would think.

  1. It is hard to figure out if people are lying about the rapes and so on, but something definitely needs to change. It is understandable, to a point, that superstars and others with a high social status think they can get away with just about anything. It has been seen over and over where people with enough money can get out of a lot. The stars need to realize they are role models and understand they took on a responsibility. It is true that the media picks on them but most of the stars choice to step out into the spot light, they should have had some sort of idea how their lives would be affected.
